what is 'playwork'?

Totally a real thing!  We have principles, and everything. LINKS

Playwork grew out of the post-WW2 UK adventure playground movement and is a professional approach to supporting play without non-judgment or outside agenda.  It offers a uniquely empathetic and reflective way of working with children.  I've been a playworker since 2007, and helped found an organization named Pop-Up Adventure Play which offers training to students around the world..

I've been quoted about playwork in NY Times, Atlas Obscura, and keep a blog about my practice.  I'm also working towards a PhD in Playwork from Leeds Beckett University so, yeah, you could say I'm obsessed.

Play support for adults

Not the same, but also super important.  Adults, and particularly women and minorities and so on are trained not to value their own play.  For all of us, play has been marginalized and diminished.  We might feel silly.  We might experience a whole range of emotions  But we'll be 'living creatively'.

Quote?  Play is hard but beautiful?  Play is culture and art?
